"I found out about Physical Therapy by accident. I was going to school at Henderson for athletic training but couldn’t put in the “out of class” time because I had a family. The instructor told me that I might want to investigate PT as an option but it took me another year to do that. I found the UCA program and finished my undergrad there for three years then another three in grad school. I guess PT really just suited me well. Since I was a kid I wanted to be a doctor (a heart surgeon actually), I just really loved learning about the body. Everything about it fascinated me and I really just couldn’t get enough. When I got out of high school I studied massage therapy for three years (though I never went to school for it and hold no credentials to practice) and loved it. It was my first experience with the healing arts and I was hooked. When I learned what PT was, the depth and breadth of medical knowledge necessary, the hands-on approach to patient care, and the professional roles, it just all fell into place. I never really looked back after that. I’ve enjoyed the challenges of the graduate work and the accomplishment of graduation, but neither of them has been as challenging or rewarding as actually getting to practice in the clinic. Since I started college back in 1998, I told myself that I was going to find something that I loved doing. That I was going to wake up and be happy to go off to work every day, and that’s what I do. I’m still smiling driving in my car every day as I think about my patients and what I can do to best serve their health needs."
