What to Expect at Physical Therapy
Malvern Physical Therapy offers private treatment areas as well as a gym equipped with standard therapy and exercise equipment. Much of the physical therapy offered at Malvern Physical Therapy is hands-on manual treatment performed by the Physical Therapist (P.T.) The patient always has the same P.T. for each visit so that familiarity with the patient’s symptoms and continuity of care is assured.
At the initial evaluation our Physical Therapist, Michael Schoultz will explain to the patient what his observation was and what his outcome goals for therapy will be. At each visit the patient will be seen by the P.T. Modalities are physical agents that may be used to assist in providing pain relief or muscle re-education of various symptoms. Examples are ultrasound, electrical stimulation, spinal traction, moist heat or cold therapy. Manual treatment includes joint and soft tissue mobilization, manipulation, myofascial release and massage.
Therapeutic Exercise in various forms is always a strong component of our patient treatment and your therapist will take time to design a program that is individual and workable for you. Often times patients will receive an at home exercise program. Home programs are detailed with clear instructions and illustrations.
A variety of therapy aids such as lumbar supports and rolls, small exercise equipment, simple hand splints as well as walkers, canes or crutches are available for patient purchase if desired. Special equipment can be recommended or ordered for the patient.
The patient’s referring physician will receive a written report of the P.T.’s initial evaluation and treatment plan, updates on progress and final discharge plans. Care is taken to communicate with the doctor if there are concerns about the patient along the way.
